The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) has introduced a new residential solar rebate programme called SuRIA Home. The initiative is designed to help homeowners reduce the upfront cost of installing rooftop solar while supporting Malaysia’s wider clean energy transition.
According to PETRA, RM150 million has been allocated for SuRIA Home. The programme is expected to benefit around 45,000 to 50,000 homes and support about 250MW of residential solar capacity nationwide. Bernama also reported that the rebate will begin from 1 June 2026 and will be given on a first come, first served basis.
SuRIA Home stands for Sustainable Rebate & Incentive Assistance Home.
It is a government rebate programme for eligible Malaysian homeowners who install rooftop solar under the Solar ATAP programme.
The programme aims to:
Under SuRIA Home, eligible domestic users can receive:

The SuRIA Home rebate will start from 1 June 2026.
The programme is open for Solar ATAP systems that begin operation up to 31 December 2026, or until the 250MW quota is fully taken up, whichever comes first.
This means homeowners who are interested should plan early, as the rebate depends on quota availability and eligibility approval.
Based on PETRA’s announcement, the rebate is available for users who meet these criteria:
Eligible users will be notified through their registered TNB email to provide bank account details. After verification, the rebate will be paid directly into the local bank account under the registered TNB customer’s name.
For many homes, electricity is used throughout the day for air-cond, water heater, fridge, WiFi, lighting, cooking appliances, and device charging.
Solar helps homeowners generate electricity from their own rooftop during the day. This can reduce reliance on grid electricity when the solar system is producing power.
With SuRIA Home, homeowners can receive extra support to reduce the initial cost of going solar, making it easier to start their solar journey.
SuRIA Home is a timely initiative for Malaysian homeowners who are considering rooftop solar. With a rebate of RM600 per 1kWac, capped at RM3,000, the programme helps make solar more accessible while supporting Malaysia’s renewable energy goals.
For homeowners who want to reduce long-term electricity costs, this could be a good time to explore solar and check whether their home is suitable.
