A Step-by-Step Guide to Installing Solar Panels in Malaysia with TERA

Installing solar panels not only reduces reliance on fossil fuels but also offers significant financial savings on electricity bills. This step-by-step guide provides a comprehensive overview of the solar panel installation process we do at TERA, from the initial consultation to system activation. By understanding each phase, you can make informed decisions and enjoy the benefits of harnessing solar energy for your home.

Essentially, it is a four-part process broken down into smaller various steps.

STEP 1: Get a consultation and site visit

The process begins with a comprehensive consultation and site visit. During this phase, you’ll learn about the environmental benefits of solar energy, including its role in reducing carbon footprints, as well as the financial savings associated with lower electricity bills.

Following the consultation, an energy audit will be conducted to assess your current energy usage, helping to determine the optimal system size tailored to your needs. You will also explore various policies, schemes, and incentives available in Malaysia that can reduce installation costs.

After that, a rooftop assessment using a drone will evaluate the type of roof you have, the available space for solar panels, and the best installation methods based on the roof’s material, angle, and structure.

Based on the gathered information, you will receive a customized proposal outlining the optimal system size and various financial options. This proposal will detail the best-in-class products offered, including high-quality solar panels from reputable manufacturers like Jinko, Trina, or Longi, a reliable Huawei smart inverter with app monitoring capabilities, and LAPP cables known for their superior standards.

Step 2: Receive proposal and finance options

Once you decide to proceed, you will confirm the project by placing a minimal deposit and providing the necessary documentation.

TERA will then handle the entire application process with relevant authorities, such as SEDA and TNB, ensuring a hassle-free experience. This includes preparing all documentation and engineering design drawings. Once approved by SEDA, TERA will arrange the installation schedule according to your preferences.

Step 3: Product supply and installation commences

When it comes time for installation, materials will be delivered to your home. To ensure safety, the team leader will conduct a mandatory safety briefing before work begins. The installation team will then set up all components at your site, and an engineer will conduct comprehensive functionality checks to ensure everything operates correctly.

Following the installation, the engineer will set up the app and Wi-Fi connection, guiding you through its features for monitoring your solar system.

Step 4: System gets activated

After installation, TERA will submit the required documentation to the relevant authorities. TNB will issue a “Welcome Letter,” granting approval for the activation of your solar system.

If your premises do not have a smart meter, TNB will arrange for a complimentary installation.
